Father William Collins saw a great need in his community of South Florida to serve
those suffering with HIV-AIDS. With the help of volunteers, Fr. Collins brought
the Poverello Center to life. Its mission is “to provide life-saving food and
basic living essentials with the highest degree of understanding, respect and
love for individuals living with HIV.” Since its inception in 1988, the
Poverello Center has provided over one million meals to South Florida’s most
poor and destitute. The center provides food, clothing and everyday necessities
to 6,000 families a month.
