The Campion College Board of Regents is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Benjamin Fiore, S.J. as president of Campion College. Dr. Fiore will begin his five year term on July 1, 2005.

Dr. Fiore is currently professor of scripture at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. He has been a member of the Canisius College faculty for the past 25 years and has served as chair of its religious studies department from 1980 to 1986 and from 1996 to the present. Dr. Fiore is no stranger to Campion College having spent his sabbaticals as a summer lecturer in 1984 and as the Hannin Visiting Professor from 1990 to 1991.

“I am pleased to be returning to Campion College to serve as its president," said Dr. Fiore. "I am impressed with how remarkably well-run Campion is. The current administration has husbanded the resources of the college to put together a strong and cohesive faculty and a physical space that is welcoming, attractive, and suited to the needs of the students and staff. The students I met recently, like those I have known in the past, are serious about their studies and help create an atmosphere of collaboration and support. Campion represents what is best in the Catholic tradition of higher education. It is a learning community that I look forward to joining and working with.”

Dr. Fiore holds a PhD in religious studies from Yale University, a StB in theology from Pontificia Universita Gregoriana (Rome, Italy), a MA in classical languages from Fordham University (New York), and a BA in English from Le Moyne College, Syracuse University (New York).

Dr. Fiore will replace Dr. Kenneth L. McGovern, who will be retiring from his position in June 2005. Dr. McGovern had first joined the faculty at Campion College in 1966 as assistant professor in philosophy. Dr. McGovern was appointed president of Campion College in January 2003. Prior to this appointment Dr. McGovern served as the dean from 1995 to 2002.

Founded in 1917, Campion College is a Jesuit center of educational excellence which offers programs in Arts, Science, and Fine Arts in partnership with the University of Regina. Over 1,200 students are currently enrolled through Campion College.
