This course, designed for near-beginners, aims at the acquisition of more extensive vocabulary and structures, building on previously acquired oral and written communication skills.
Fr 201-202 and 203 form a sequence of grammar-based classes which use the same grammar text. Together, they review and expand on past knowledge and introduce some new grammatical structures. Students should expect to improve the quality of their expression in French and so to function more competently and more comfortably in the academic and professional world. In addition to the study of grammatical structures, these classes involve practical application of grammar through reading and writing.
Qu’est-ce que la francophonie? Le français se parle sur les cinq continents. Pourtant, on s’étonne de découvrir que le mot et l’idée de francophonie n’ont pas une longue histoire et sont encore en train de se définir. Dans ce cours, nous tracerons l’évolution de cette notion et nous étudierons certains aspects de l’étonnante et riche diversité du monde francophone. Prerequisite: FR 202 or permission of the department head.
